Study on herpes virus might lead to cure for cold sores
A U.S. study found that latency-associated transcript RNA causes the herpes simplex 1 virus to remain dormant and elude drugs that might eradicate it. The genetic material, which is generated during the virus' inactive state, works by targeting the genes necessary for active replication, the study's lead investigator said. Researchers said they are testing an experimental treatment that can block LAT RNA to cure patients from infection.
