House health bill seeks $20 billion device tax

The House health reform bill unveiled on Thursday would impose roughly $20 billion in taxes over the next decade on medical-device makers, about half the amount approved by the Senate Finance Committee earlier this month. AdvaMed commended the House lawmakers for the progress and believes that such a tax should be delayed until 2013 and should protect small companies, said Stephen Ubl, the group's president and CEO.
