Study backs efficacy of device for non-valvular atrial fibrillation
A study of non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients who received Watchman -- a device used to close the heart's left atrial appendage -- versus those who received long-term warfarin therapy was conducted to compare the chance of experiencing stroke, death caused by cardiovascular conditions and systemic embolisms. Although U.S. researchers found a higher rate of serious problems in the device group than in the warfarin group, they linked the adverse events in the device group to "periprocedural complications."
