AGA releases comprehensive economic impact study

The AGA recently released Beyond the Casino Floor: Economic Impacts of the Commercial Casino Industry, the largest and most comprehensive study of the total impact of the commercial casino industry in nearly 15 years. The report examines not only the direct economic impact on communities where casinos are located, but also the indirect and induced impacts of the industry and its employees nationwide. Earlier this week, the American Gaming Association (AGA) announced the 2012 class for the Gaming Hall of Fame. Guy Laliberté, founder of the legendary and innovative Cirque du Soleil, and Julian Serrano, executive chef at multiple Las Vegas Strip restaurants, will be honored for their unique contributions to gaming entertainment and cuisine. Dennis Gomes, a former gaming regulator and co-owner of Resorts Atlantic City, and Sen. William Raggio, former gaming attorney and the longest serving state senator in Nevada history, will be inducted posthumously for their roles in the growth of the gaming industry. The 24th annual Gaming Hall of Fame Charity Gala and Induction Ceremony will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Las Vegas, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG). According to the newly released State of the States: The AGA Survey of Casino Entertainment, commercial casino gaming revenues rose for the second consecutive year in 2011, continuing the recovery that began in 2010. The 2012 State of the States survey, which was released today by the American Gaming Association, provides national and state-by-state economic impact data, such as gaming revenues, tax contributions and employment and wage figures for the 22 U.S. commercial casino states operating in 2011. A special section of the report showcases a poll of elected officials and civic leaders in gaming jurisdictions, revealing that community leaders say casinos have more than delivered on their promises of jobs, economic development and tax revenues.
