Baker’s Schlesinger Leader of Naval Energy Team Receives Awards

PITTSBURGH-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced that its Director of Business Development for Navy Programs, Bob Schlesinger, P.E., LEED AP, who recently retired from the Navy as a Captain after 29 years of service, was the leader of a Navy energy team that has been honored with several prestigious awards. Schlesinger was the Commanding Officer of NAVFAC NW and the Navy Region Northwest Director of Facilities and Environment prior to joining Baker.
The Naval Base Kitsap/Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) NW energy team was recognized for excellence by the Navy, Department of Energy, and the President of the United States in three separate award presentations in Washington, D.C. Naval Base Kitsap is located in Bremerton, Wash.
Specifically, the Under Secretary of Navy presented the Secretary’s Large Shore award to the team for reducing 2008 energy usage by 17 percent and water consumption by 24 percent from baselines in 2003 and 2007, respectively. The Associate Under Secretary of Energy presented Federal Energy Management Program awards to members of the team. And finally, the team was recognized with a Presidential Leadership in Federal Energy Management award for Conservation and Efficient Use of Energy and Alternative Financing.
