May construction activity posts sharp increase in New York City

Construction activity in New York tripled in May, but it is unclear if those results are an anomaly or the start of a new trend, observers say. The value of construction projects declined 80% during the first four months of the year. In May, the value nearly tripled to $2.04 billion. Lower materials costs and federal stimulus funds could help the industry recover, observers say.
