Pediatricians: Wait on antibiotics for some ear infections
Antibiotics for acute otitis media should only be prescribed in children ages 6 months and older presenting with serious signs or symptoms, the American Academy of Pediatrics said. In the group's revised ear infection guidelines, published in the journal Pediatrics, pediatricians are advised only to diagnose acute ear infections if the eardrum is moderately to severely bulging or if there is discharge leaking from the ear.
