Epilepsy drug valproate might affect baby's IQ, study says
A U.S. study showed children whose mothers took valproate during pregnancy scored lower on IQ tests by an average of 9 points compared with those whose mothers took lamotrigine. Experts emphasized that a vast majority of babies born to epileptic women are healthy and that patients should not stop taking valproate because of the finding.
