Analysis links mortality risk with added weight after diabetes
Weight gain in the first year following a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, according to a Swedish study presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting. Data on about 8,500 patients showed that the rates of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality were 63% and 34% higher, respectively, in patients who gained weight compared with those who didn't gain weight.
