In India's growing airline industry, Kingfisher Airlines has emerged as one of the leaders, behind Air India and Jet Airways. The carrier serves about 70 domestic destinations with a fleet of about 75 aircraft, including Airbus jets and ATR 72 turboprops. It maintains bases in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. Kingfisher Airlines is a unit of UB Holdings, best known for its United Breweries unit, and the carrier shares the Kingfisher brand with a popular Indian beer. In 2008 the carrier absorbed the operations of low-cost carrier Air Deccan, another domestic airline in which UB Holdings owned a stake. Owned by Chairman and CEO Vijay Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines began flying in 2005.
