Northrop Grumman weighs legal action on tanker-pricing disclosure

Northrop Grumman Corp. is considering legal action to rectify its perceived competitive disadvantage after the Pentagon briefed rival Boeing Co. on Northrop's pricing data in its previous bid for the KC-X tanker contract. Northrop insists that the Air Force debriefing was "not in accordance with regulations," and it is considering a range of options -- including a lawsuit or a request under the Freedom of Information Act -- to rectify the situation. The Pentagon has asked Boeing for permission to release its pricing data to Northrop, but that request reportedly was turned down last month. Boeing has accused Northrop of "attacking" the Air Force, a charge that Northrop denies. "Our primary interest is working with this customer to try to resolve this issue as soon as possible," a company spokesman told reporters.
