Nanoparticle systems target tumors, have fewer side effects
Nanoparticle drug-delivery systems allow stronger drugs to target tumors directly and sidestep the negative effects of drug cocktails used to treat cancer, says Cerulean Pharma, which has developed targeted nanoparticles that slowly release a drug in the presence of tumors. The chemical bond between the drug and the nanoparticle can be adjusted for different drug release rates. Separately, BIND Biosciences has developed targeting molecules for its nanoparticles to better identify cancerous cells.
