Nearly 300 vaccines in biopharma pipeline
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America reported last week that 271 vaccines were under development, including a monoclonal antibody against the flu and a vaccine intended to hinder HIV. "The nearly 300 vaccines in the pipeline provide great hope for protecting and improving public health in the United States and across the globe," PhRMA President and CEO John J. Castellani said. The recipients of the 2013 Research & Hope Awards were also announced by the group. John Schiller and Douglas Lowy of the National Cancer Institute were honored for their work on the human papillomavirus vaccine. A Children's National Medical Center team led by Linda Yu-Sing Fu was honored for promoting childhood immunization.
