U.S., Canadian regional leaders urge both governments to act on rail safety
Governors of the New England states and leaders from five eastern Canadian provinces are jointly calling on President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to address rail-safety issues after recent accidents involving petrochemical products. Additional rules "must be adopted without delay," according to a resolution adopted by the group. "It is certain that the fact we have increased a lot the volume of oil carried by rail transport, while we have not revised the rules, increases, without doubt, the risks," said Quebec Premier Pauline Marois.
