Researchers examine telemedicine's use in managing concussion
A study conducted by researchers from the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix profiled how telemedicine tools were used in assessing and diagnosing the concussion symptoms of a 15-year-old patient in rural Arizona. The patient, who was being treated at a regional facility that did not have neurological support, consulted with a concussion specialist through telemedicine, who assessed his symptoms and made recommendations. "The ability to identify a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) soon after it is sustained, whether on the battlefield or the sports field, is of great importance and high utility," said Charles Doarn, co-editor of the journal Telemedicine and e-Health, which will publish the report.
