The premature birth rate in New York fell thanks to efforts to increase the quality of prenatal care and raise awareness among pregnant women, state Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav Shah says. Births before 37 weeks' gestational age went from 12.2% in 2009 to 10.9% in 2011.
