Hospitals are reviving basic techniques for infection prevention, such as protocols for hand hygiene, checklists and diagnostic tests to identify infected patients quickly. Many facilities also are using new technologies to fight infections, including data mining, undercover monitoring of cleaning crews and even robots that ferret out lingering bacteria.
