Survey shows incidence of diabetes, obesity increasing

A Gallup survey of more than 623,000 U.S. adults found 11.3% reported having diabetes in the third quarter of 2009, up from 10.4% in the first quarter of 2008. Analysts said the U.S. obesity rate increased 1 percentage point in quarter-to-quarter comparisons to 2008, and people who are obese are almost three times more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes.
