Chicago youth opts for amputation to correct birth defect
A 15-year-old boy in Chicago born without a fibula has chosen to have his deformed leg amputated and wear a prosthesis. Before reaching his decision – one seldom presented to one so young -- Seth Melvin discussed his situation with amputees and researched prosthetic legs. The other choice would have been surgery to elongate his leg.
