The transition to the Common Core State Standards has put news literacy programs in high demand as schools nationwide seek ways to help students hone their critical-thinking and analytical skills. The Maryland-based News Literacy Project is one program intended to help students develop skills to separate fact from fiction when they read news stories and other information. The program partners with journalists who visit classrooms to help students develop a healthy skepticism about what they read.
