Study: Highly qualified teachers only mediocre

Students in classrooms led by teachers labeled as highly qualified under NCLB on average received "mediocre" instruction, according to a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development study appearing in the March 30 issue of the journal Science. "This pattern of instruction appears inconsistent with aims to add depth to students' understanding," write the authors of the study.
