Strategy helps school district reduce achievement gap

A California school district has developed a targeted strategy to boost the achievement of underperforming students and to narrow the achievement gap. The San Marcos Unified School District attributes gains in student test scores to a four-facet approach: ensuring teachers know the district's academic standards, focusing on key subject matter, frequently assessing student progress and teachers sharing best practices with each other.
