"Crawler bot" climbs walls to inspect integrity of concrete
A new wall-scaling robot -- called a "crawler bot" -- that inspects concrete passed its first real-world test when it climbed the walls of a dam to test the dam's structural integrity, writes Luke Abaffy. The technology is intended to reduce costs and time associated with manual inspections of concrete, which will be critical as existing dams and nuclear reactors approach the end of their design lives, Abaffy notes.
