China completes its first energy-saving road project
The use of recycled tires in the asphalt mix, LED lights installed on the highway and recycling wastewater runoff has helped make a Chinese road project more green, according to this article. The nearly 156-mile road is expected to reduce carbon emissions and vehicles' fuel consumption. The use of new construction materials and systems in future projects will "significantly lower emissions of carbon dioxide and create favorable conditions for energy-saving during road transportation," said Ke Linchun, Ministry of Transport deputy director of policies and regulations.
