Study: Urban population growth could mean greener, healthier cities
The global urban population is projected to increase from more than 3.5 billion at present to 4.9 billion by 2030, creating opportunities for sustainable development, according to a study by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. "Sustainable urban development that supports valuable ecosystems presents a major opportunity for improving lives and livelihoods," said Achim Steiner, head of the U.N. Environment Program.
