Honolulu's $5.1 billion rail transit project is guaranteed $1.55 billion in federal funds. The project, which includes construction of a 20-mile rail line and 21 stations, is expected to generate tens of thousands of construction jobs. "The Honolulu rail transit project, the first of its kind in the state, will bring new transit options to the growing region and create a modern transportation system that is built to last for future generations," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.
