Experts: Calif. bridge incident highlights need for maintenance

Many bridges in the U.S. are in dire need of maintenance and inspections, experts say, citing this week's incident on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The average U.S. bridge is 43 years old, and most bridges are designed to last just 50 years. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., recently described some bridges in his state as "life threatening." He is urging lawmakers to pass legislation to fund improvements.
