Fresno airport gets record solar installation

Fresno-Yosemite International in California is not the busiest airport in the world, but it just might be greenest with the addition of the largest solar project of any commercial airport in the U.S. The airport has blanketed 9.5 acres of its undeveloped land -- the equivalent of seven football fields -- with solar panels that will generate about 40% of its annual electrical needs while reducing fossil fuel consumption by 170,000 barrels a year. "So you take land that's basically idle and useless and [turn] it into $11 million worth of taxpayers' savings -- that's a good day for Fresno," said Mayor Alan Autry.
