Scientists examining the entire genome of melanoma tumors identified mutations in a gene-regulating region that may drive tumor growth. Liver and bladder cancers displayed similar mutations. The mutations encourage the production of telomerase, which prevents cell death and is abundant in 90% of cancers, experts say.
