In Assessing Risk in Acute Chest Pain: The Value of Myocardial Perfusion in Patients Admitted Through the Emergency Department, Dr. Mahmarian discusses the results of his recent study evaluating low-to intermediate-risk patients admitted through the emergency room with acute chest pain. Dr. Mahmarian is the Director of the Nuclear Cardiology and Computed Tomography (CT) Services at the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston.

ASNC2012 travel grants available for fellows

ASNC's First Journal of Nuclear Cardiology (JNC) Podcast of 2012 Has Arrived!

It's fitting that the first JNC Podcast of the year comes to us from ASNC founding member and past president, Robert Hendel, MD, FASNC. In this podcast, Dr. Hendel, who serves on the appropriate use criteria (AUC) task force at the American College of Cardiology, reviews a new study evaluating the use of appropriate use criteria in an academic practice and a Veterans Affairs hospital. Utilization of Radionuclide Myocardial Perfusion Imaging in Two Health Care Systems: Assessment with the 2009 ACCF/ASNC/AHA Appropriate Use Criteria is available now, with more podcasts becoming available throughout the year.


ASNC Signs Letter in Support of American Medical Isotope Production Act of 2011

ASNC, as part of a coalition assembled by the Council on Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals (CORAR), recently signed a letter to support domestic production of essential medical isotopes (S.99). With this bill in place, it is intended that the United States would have a reliable and continuous supply of essential medical radioisotopes.

ASNC joins the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) to raise awareness that obesity is a serious medical condition

ASNC encourages doctors and patients to contact their legislators regarding the need to address weight, specifically obesity, as a matter of health. As part of a group of 45 organizations, ASNC stands with the Obesity Action Coalition to support the notion that obesity should be treated with the respect, urgency and action it deserves. The OAC maintains that care should not be seen as having the goal of reducing body weight, but should additionally be focused on improving overall health and quality of life.
