Portugal's Alto Alentejo evolves into European playground
Alto Alentejo is a province in Portugal that features olive trees, cork oaks and whitewashed towns. Just a few years ago, the area was fairly unknown outside of the country, but it is slowly becoming increasingly popular as a playground for Europeans and others interested in a more relaxed atmosphere. Wineries, restaurants and hotels have been added to cater to the increase in visitors, but Alto Alentejo has managed to retain its charm.
