Biotech yeast helps speed up cellulosic ethanol production
Indiana-based Green Tech America has started production of a biotech yeast that can quickly convert agricultural waste into cellulosic ethanol. The yeast, which originated from a Purdue University study, was generated using recombinant DNA techniques and is capable of fermenting glucose and xylose -- two forms of sugar that play a role in the production of plant matter-derived ethanol.
