Reduced publication, staff cuts at New Orleans Times-Picayune

Deep staff cuts and a reduction of print frequency to three days a week are in store at New Orleans' Times-Picayune. The decision by owner Newhouse Newspapers to publish less than daily resembles a move made at the company's Ann Arbor, Mich., paper. "[T]he need to reallocate resources to accelerate the digital growth of NOLA Media Group will necessitate a reduction in the size of the workforce," publisher Ashton Phelps Jr. wrote in a staff memo.
