CEA's Television Data Systems Subcommittee is conducting a scheduled periodic review of CEA-516, Joint EIA/CVCC Recommended Practice for Teletext: North American Basic Teletext Specification. This standard describes how to broadcast one-way teletext messages in North America using analog TV signals. While full-power TV broadcasters in the U.S. will stop broadcasting analog signals next February, a number of other video-service providers will continue to use analog signals for some time. CEA's Television Data Systems Subcommittee has begun work on a recommended practice that will advise DTV-receiver manufacturers on how to separate different types of DTV audio information, particularly in cases where the TV broadcaster is sending audio in multiple languages. Latest on DVD ripping

RealNetworks recently launched its RealDVD Software application to great fanfare. The application allows users to copy DVDs to their hard drives for later playback. Digital Freedom campaigners are no doubt familiar with the CSS encryption that most Hollywood DVDs are "protected" with, but it appears that RealNetworks has signed licenses with the DVD Copy Control Association to allow for this type of playback.
