Consumers spent an estimated $43.7 billion on holiday gifts during the Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. Smartphones and tablet computers were leading categories in electronics purchases, CEA said. E-tailers rang up more than $1 billion in sales on Black Friday alone, a 26% rise from last year, according to comScore, which also estimated that online spending on CE products has increased by 18% so far this year, when compared with 2011 figures.
