Philadelphia papers to offer separate paid sites
The digital marriage of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News at Philly.com will dissolve in the next quarter as both newspapers plan sites with paid subscription models. Philly.com will remain but will be devoted primarily to video and entertainment content. Andrew Mendelson, chair of the journalism department at Temple University, said it was difficult for the two papers to distinguish themselves on a common site, noting that "people don't buy generic news, they want something that has voice, something that's familiar."
