HyperIP for VMware WAN Optimization Software Solves Long Distance VMotion Migration Issue With Up to 600% Performance Boost

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- NetEx, the leader in WAN optimization software, today announced that its software-only HyperIP for VMware optimization is the first industry solution to support the migration and acceleration of live VMotion images between VMware virtual machines over existing IP WAN connections.

According to Search Disaster Recovery.com, dated July 1, 2009, VMware and Cisco recently announced a 'proof of concept' for migrating VMs at 80 km, but industry experts say that a commercially-available system capable of migrating VMs globally may be years away due to excessive latency. VMware and Cisco have cited long-distance latency as a limiting factor that prevents their test solution from being used at distances of more than 80 km.

HyperIP WAN optimization software has taken a giant step forward in support of VMware's vision for VMotion over distance by providing software that enhances the delivery of VMotion migration and storage VMotion over existing IP WAN infrastructures by enhancing throughput 600%. NetEx has already solved the latency problem with HyperIP for VMware with a design optimized for long-distance data migration that mitigates performance degradation due to distance latency. The software-only HyperIP WAN optimizer is downloadable today for a free 10-day trial.

The NetEx HyperIP for VMware software solution has been validated for a global customer base of end users via a worldwide network of resellers and service providers, including Cambridge Computers, Code Zero and Evolving Solutions in the U.S., and around the world with resellers such as NCE Group on the UK, Triangle Computer Services Ltd. in Ireland, Cristie Germany, and Kapiti Technologies Ltd. in New Zealand, to name a few.

"Our success at deploying virtualization infrastructures is based on enabling a holistic virtualization approach, encompassing not just servers, but also storage, backup, network, and replication and disaster recovery. HyperIP plays a critical role in this success by supercharging data movement applications under VMware," said David Reddaway, president at Code Zero. "There is a big difference between having a commercially useful product today and a proof of concept. At Code Zero, we have elected to embrace HyperIP as a critical piece of our virtualization solutions."

"Cisco is looking for a solution to a problem that NetEx solved 10 years ago by overcoming the latency issues that are inherent in long-distance data transport," said Robert MacIntyre, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing at NetEx. "We have now virtualized the HyperIP application for VMware infrastructures and are delivering VMotion migration solutions today that Cisco and VMware are promising at some unspecified future date. For VMware customers who need to perform live VMotion migrations today, including the storage, HyperIP is the only choice."

HyperIP for VMware is the industry's only virtualized software-based WAN optimizer operating in VMware ESX Server - including the new vSphere cloud-optimized virtual infrastructure - to boost the performance of storage replication and migration applications from companies such as EMC, NetApp, FalconStor, Symantec, IBM, Data Domain and many more. A complete list the DR applications supported by HyperIP is available at http://www.netex.com/products/hyperip/supported-applications.

Deploying HyperIP in a VMware infrastructure dramatically reduces VMotion transfer windows without the complexity, expense and additional hardware requirements of the proposed Cisco solution. HyperIP for VMware maximizes the cost savings of a virtualized VMware environment by enabling businesses to do more with existing resources, including cloud-based virtual infrastructures. HyperIP is especially well-suited for VMware's new cloud-based vSphere infrastructure to minimize costly bandwidth requirements to move, migrate and recover VMotion and Storage VMotion images between data center and the public or private cloud.

NetEx is currently making HyperIP for VMware WAN optimization software available for a free 10-day trial, allowing organizations the time to properly test HyperIP with replication, backup, cloud storage, and other IP-based data transfer requirements and managed service offerings.
