Analysis: Is Intel moving past Itanium?
Intel says its "Kittson" Itanium chips will be made using a 32-nanometer process and won't be socket-compatible with Xeon server chips. Some say the changes may indicate that Intel intends to discontinue Itanium products. "It could easily be that this is their way of cutting it back and having essentially an exit strategy," says Nathan Brookwood of Insight64.
