Supreme Court ruling dramatically alters campaign-finance rules
A Supreme Court ruling issued Thursday would allow companies to spend unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns. The 5-4 decision undoes decades of legislative restrictions on campaign contributions that prevented corporations and labor unions from airing campaign ads. The court, however, upheld current restrictions on corporations donating directly to a candidate. The decision is one of the biggest changes to campaign finance regulations since the Feingold-McCain law it partially overturns and could have a massive effect on the nature of political campaigns.
