FCC signals rejection of LightSquared's wireless dream
CTIA SmartBrief | Feb 15, 2012
The Federal Communications Commission moved Tuesday to bar LightSquared from developing a national satellite-based wireless network after the Commerce Department reported that there was "no practical way to mitigate the potential interference at this time" -- a reference to the service's supposed troubling effect on GPS signals. The decision is not final, but the government's unanimity signaled potential bad news for LightSquared. The company issued a statement saying that regulators had jeopardized the economic growth -- especially the jobs -- that the project would engender.
