Judge upholds $1.05B patent ruling against Samsung on Apple appeal
A federal judge upheld an August jury ruling requiring Samsung to shell out $1.05 billion following Apple's claim that Samsung violated its patents. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh denied a motion from Apple asking for potentially triple that amount. Koh rejected Apple's argument that it deserved a larger award because Samsung "willfully" infringed on its intellectual property rights, accepting the South Korean company's assertion that it didn't think the patents were valid to begin with.
