A federal court jury on Monday began hearing an Alcatel-Lucent unit's patent infringement claims against Apple and LG Electronics stemming from a 2010 suit that deals with video-compression technology on mobile devices and computers. Also, Ericsson said today it had sued Samsung Electronics following two years of failed negotiations to reach a deal for Samsung to license standards-essential telecom and networking technology under what the Swedish vendor called fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.
