FCC mulls free wireless Web
The FCC is considering a proposal that would require top bidders in future wireless-spectrum auctions to provide free wireless Internet service to most people. One hurdle, according to this article, is that most of the large wireless carriers have already bought spectrum blocks. "CTIA supports flexible auction rules that allow any and all entities to participate," said CTIA-The Wireless Association® spokesman Joe Farren.
