Motorola stabilizes handset revenue on Droid sales

Motorola's bet on Android continued to pay off in the second quarter as the equipment supplier sold 2.7 million smartphones, up from 2.3 million in the first quarter in reporting a stronger profit compared with a year earlier, the company said Thursday. Equipment shortages have hurt Motorola sales, Co-Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Jha conceded, but he predicted the cell phone division would show growth in the third quarter for the first time since 2006 and produce a profit in the final quarter.
