One-third of new diabetes patients do not get first-line drugs

A study in the American Journal of Medicine revealed 35% of patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes did not receive the recommended first-line drug. "Pharmacotherapy for diabetes presents a significant opportunity for quality and performance improvement initiatives and holds the potential to realize significant savings for patients, payers, and the entire health care system," a study author said.
