Review highlights pharmacists' role in diabetes care
Pharmacists' interventions can help boost blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes patients, and pharmaceutical care may be associated with improvements in quality of life for such patients, researchers report in Clinical Audit. "The improvement in diabetes control achieved by the pharmacists' interventions are likely to translate into future cost savings to the health care system by delaying and reducing diabetes-related complications," the authors write. The researchers reviewed 17 assessments of interventions by pharmacists acting as part of a team or alone.
