Hemoglobin test may fall short in diagnosing diabetes in teens

A study in the Journal of Pediatrics found that the glycated hemoglobin test scored poorly in diagnosing diabetes in adolescents compared with adults, and accuracy didn't improve with the use of two-hour plasma glucose measurements. The findings suggest that the HbA1c test may be less effective in diagnosing and monitoring the disease in adolescents, experts said.
