EU must loosen its purse strings on cybersecurity, analyst says
The European Union is not spending enough on cybersecurity, according to critics who say the funding earmarked for research and development during the next eight years falls short of what is needed. The European Commission plans to increase cybersecurity spending 14% through 2020, with much of it going to a handful of projects, but Rik Ferguson, director of security research and communication at TrendMicro, says the government's commitment is "paltry" and not "commensurate" to spending by the private sector.
