Turner Achieves 2 Million Hours Worked with No Lost-Time Accidents in the Carolinas

NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, has achieved two million hours worked without a lost-time accident in the firm's Carolinas region. Safety is an integral part of Turner's business process. This philosophy extends from executive leadership to the craftspeople building our projects.

"Turner strives every day to meet our goal of zero incidents through preplanning, training and open coordination among the trades," said Tom Gregg, Turner's Safety Director for the Carolina's region. "We also empower our workforce and subcontractors to take ownership of the safety processes and be accountable for the results."

As part of the tri-venture, Turner/BE&K/Davis, the firm recently achieved 1,000,000 work hours without experiencing a lost-time injury on the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum, Convention Center Expansion and Parking Facility in Charlotte, N.C.

"Working safely means our employees and subcontractors are able to go home safely to their families each and every night," Gary Stradowski VP and General Manager for Turner Carolinas said. "Our employees have proven this statement true with two million hours, or two hundred and fifty thousand working days, without a lost-time incident."

Turner's Carolinas office is also the recipient of recent safety awards from The Associated General Contractors (AGC), Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) and North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSHA). Turner is one of the few construction companies in the state of North Carolina that has been honored by NCOSHA to participate in its state-run Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) called Building STAR. Turner also enjoys a project partnership with NCOSHA and our JV partners on the NASCAR HOF Project in Charlotte.

"A strong safety culture in any organization is dependent upon a commitment to safety throughout the entire company. The responsibility rests firmly on the organization's leadership to establish priorities and to create a climate in which such a commitment can flourish," said Turner's Vice President of Safety and Loss Control, Cindy DePrater. "For Turner's Carolina's office to achieve this milestone demonstrates how a culture of safety not only drives results but sustains them."
