Report: States lack data to oversee specialty pharmacies
Pharmacy boards in almost all 50 states don't have the needed data and know-how to regulate compounding pharmacies, according to a report from Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The FDA should be given direct control over specialty pharmacies because they are not sufficiently overseen by state regulators, the report said. "In states from coast to coast, compounding pharmacies are going untracked, unregulated, and under-inspected, exposing patients everywhere to tainted drugs, disease and death," Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said.
